HealthTrust Director Testifies at Massachusetts State House on Beacon Hill
(August 2010)
Last week, members of the Appraisal Institute in collaboration with the MBREA appeared before the Massachusetts Legislative Joint Committee for Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure in support of proposed legislation for House Bill 4751. In addition to regulating operations of Appraisal Management Companies, this bill will require AMCs to register with the State Board of Registration.
We are pleased to report the Committee voted unanimously to send the bill to the House to be voted on this session with a recommendation to pass. Committee members present include Representatives George Speliotis of Danvers (Chair), Don Humason of Westfield, Danielle Gregoire of Marlborough, and Thomas Stanley of Waltham. Though amendments may still be added, this bill represents a step in the right direction to creating transparency and insuring competency of appraisers while protecting appraiser independence.
This bill aims to protect the appraiser and the consumer. The Appraisal Institute will continue to work with MBREA on this legislation and will keep you posted on the progress of this bill.
Sincerely,
Zach Bowyer, Chair
Ken Dicks, MAI
Government Relations Committee
